Kathy Srabian Speaks with District 4 Board of Supervisors Candidates, Virginia Bass and Bonnie Neely

In November, Humboldt County will return to the polls to vote on a number of Propositions–including 19 which directly puts the issue of marijuana legalization to California voters–as well as four local run-off elections. One of those run-offs is the 4th district Board of Supervisors race. Host Kathy Srabian spoke with contender Virginia Bass and 4th district incumbent Bonnie Neely.

Born and raised in Myrtletown, Virginia Bass is a life-long Eureka resident involved in small business operations. Bass spent over 30 years working in her father’s restaurant. Her father, OH Bass, once served as 4th District Humboldt County Supervisor.

Virginia has been twice elected to Eureka City Council and is currently the mayor of Eureka.
Bass is a member of the Henderson Center Kiwanis Club, an honorary member of the Eureka Rotary, a board member of both the Greater Eureka Chamber of Commerce and the Humboldt County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Bass is also active in street and highway cleanup projects, “Bowl for Kids Sake,” bell ringing for the Salvation Army–says Bass, “I believe true leadership means rolling up your sleeves and getting to work, while at the same time, doing thorough deliberations on all matters before making a decision.”

Neely is a native of Humboldt County and graduated from Eureka High School. After studying abroad in London, she returned to Eureka and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Humboldt State University.

Neely currently serves on the Board of Supervisors and, according to her website, she co-founded the Redwood Coast Music Festivals, has earned an Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in recognition of her work on behalf of the elderly. Neely has also earned the Leadership Recognition Award from the California Assembly of Local Art Agencies.

Bonnie resides in Eureka.
