Tamika Butler and her team at Young Invincibles are passionate about getting 18-30 year olds involved in healthcare reform. From inspiring young people to sign up for insurance to lifting their voices to inform policies and state-wide community outreach strategies, Young Invincibles is spreading the word about the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”).

Why should young people care about whats going on with healthcare reform? Being in an accident can leave young people with massive medical bills, theres also free birth control and STD tests, not to mention the opportunity to play an active role in your health and financial wellbeing. Additionally, the State of California is depending on it!!! 1.2 million uninsured Californians are 18 to 24 year-olds. Covered California – the new state-wide insurance marketplace – needs younger people to sign up to help even out the risk pool and make coverage more afffordable for everyone. Our clinics, hospitals and Medi-Cal system also need to be paid for the services they provide, which generally only happens through insurance reimbursement (unless someone is able to pay cash out of pocket for their visit).

For information about Young Invincibles, check out their website (They even have a mobile app to help young people find or recommend doctors!)

Have questions about Covered California, the new state-wide health insurance marketplace? They have a helpful website for individuals and employers, including a tool that helps  you calculate potential insurance costs in 2014.

Need information about MediCal? Call your local clinic or Department of Health and Human Services –
