May 13, 2013 Host Kathleen Speaks With Author Mary Roach About Her New Book, Gulp. Adventures on the Alimentary Canal

Mary Roach

Mary Roach is the author of four other books:  Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void; Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex;  Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife;  and Stiff:  The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers.

Raised in Etna, New Hampshire, Mary Roach graduated from Wesleyan in 1981 and headed straight to San Francisco, California.  There she worked as a copy editor and landed a part-time job in the PR department of the San Francisco Zoo.  It was while working as a writer for a San Francisco paper’s Sunday magazine that she applied her natural curiosity and sense of humor to scientific topics.  She is not a scientist, but her fascination with human beings and their bodies has led to her to ask questions such as, “How much can a person eat before their stomach bursts?” or “Could Elvis have died of constipation?”.

Her newest book Gulp. Adventures on the Alimentary Canal, is riddled with the kinds of gut-busting humorous asides her fans have come to expect.Gulp-cover-350

All of Mary’s books can be found at major booksellers, independent bookstores and online.
