In keeping with the February holiday celebrating love, Valentine’s Day, Kathleen and Christa will be talking about Herbal Erotica; the nature of sensuality and erotica, the role of herbs in sensual and erotic enhancement, how those herbs work and some of Christa’s favorite herbal erotica recipes.

Christa Sinadinos has been studying and working with medicinal herbs since 1989, and has practiced clinical herbalism and aromatherapy since 1994. In 1998 Christa founded The Northwest School for Botanical Studies in order to teach courses on botanical medicine. Since then, hundreds of students have completed her clinical and professional herbalist training programs. She incorporates Western, Ayurvedic, and Chinese constitutional therapies into her practice and her teachings and works with clients ranging from infants to seniors.

Christa is also the proprietor of the herbal extract business Alpine Meadow Botanicals. She maintains an extensive herbal pharmacy with many organic, locally cultivated herbs, as well as herbs she has carefully wildcrafted or grown. She is dedicated to the conservation and cultivation of medicinal herbs, and maintains an herbal demonstration garden containing more than 200 species.

Christa is one of the founding members of the Arcata Women’s Business Group. She also co-founded the Herbal Practitioner’s Guild with herbalist Greta de la Montagne, and is a professional member of the American Botanical Council, American Herb Association, American Herbalist Guild, and United Plant Savers.

Christa teaches classes on Herbal Erotica and was kind enough to share her teaching materials with host Kathleen Marshall.  The following is a recipe she includes in her Circulatory Stimulation segment on Herbal Aphrodisiacs.  Please remember that herbal supplementation should be used with the guidance of a trained herbalist.

Aphrodite’s Love Nuggets
Purchase the powdered form of the herbs or individually powder the herbs used in this recipe. Combine and mix the following ingredients: 1 oz each of eleuthero and anise ½ oz each of shatavari, cinnamon, licorice root, orange peel, and cardamom ¼ oz each of ashwaganda and ginger 1 Tbs. of cocoa powder.

Next, blend the powdered herbs with 8 ounces of tahini or smooth almond butter, ½ cup honey, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon almond extract, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1-2 ounces of either Damiana cordial, Anisette, or any other tasty liqueur. Roll into small balls (about the size of a dime or nickel).

While the nuggets are delicious, they are even more flavorful when they are dipped in chocolate! Pre-heat and liquefy two packages of semi- sweet chocolate chips in a double boiler, then dip the love nuggets in the chocolate and remove with a utensil. Place on parchment paper until the chocolate hardens. Warning: If you eat too many at once, you may spontaneously combust!
