October 1, 2012; Host Corinne Frugoni Interviews Dr. Marion Nestle About her Newest Book “Why Calories Count.”

“Does a piece of chocolate have the same effect on weight gain or loss as the exact same number of calories from an orange?…Putting it another way…will you be more successful losing weight with calories from a low fat diet than with the same number of calories from a low carbohydrate diet? Or might the reverse be true?”

Dr. Marion Nestle discusses this question and other related ones about the food we eat and our relationship to food in her newest book that she has co-authored with Dr. Malden Nesheim called Why Calories Count, From Science to Politics.

Marion Nestle is Paulette Goddard Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University.  She is the author of What to Eat, Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health, Safe Food: The politics of Food Safety, and Pet Food Politics: The Chihuahua in the Coal Mine.

What is Dr. Nestle’s basic advice for coping with today’s food environment in this country? “Eat less. Eat better.  Move more. Get political.”
